University of Adelaide Becomes South Australia's First Fair Trade University

The Fair Trade Association of Australia & New Zealand has granted Fair Trade status to the University of Adelaide.

The Student Fair Trade Collective, the Adelaide University Union and the University’s Ecoversity program encouraged the switch, which will now see Fairtrade certified products such as coffee, tea and food items promoted across campus.

Fair Trade products provide fairer prices to small-scale farmers in the developing world, while also promoting business and community development in areas such as healthcare, education and environmentally sustainable practices.

The University of Adelaide becomes the first Fair Trade University in South Australia, and fifth in Australia. Macquarie University, RMIT University, La Trobe University and Monash University are also Fair Trade accredited.
